Saltwater Correct Magnesium Supplement is salt that is designed to restore low levels of magnesium with minimal impact to the ionic ratios found in natural seawater. Magnesium in natural seawater values are between (1250 mg/L-1350 mg/L). Magnesium helps to stabilize the correct combination of calcium, alkalinity and ph values. Severely low values of magnesium (900 mg/L or below) can cause low pH values and an inability to maintain proper alkalinity and calcium values. If magnesium becomes too low, coral growth will stop and followed by a decline in coral health. Carbonates and calcium are essential for all growth of corals, coralline algae, clams and invertebrates. Maintaining the correct magnesium values is very important and is indirectly responsible for coral and coralline algae growth by making it possible to maintain correct calcium, alkalinity and pH values. Magnesium can be depleted by the use of excessive Kalkwasser or by going beyond natural calcium, alkalinity and pH values.
Contents: Magnesium Chloride Hexahydrate 98%
Directions: Dissolve Epsom salts (3 cups) and magnesium chloride hexahydrate (5 cups = 2 lbs. mag) in enough purified freshwater to make 1 gallon total volume. There will likely be a precipitate that forms even if you fully dissolve both ingredients separately. That precipitate is calcium sulfate (calcium as an impurity in the magnesium chloride and sulfate from the Epsom salts). It is fine and appropriate to dose the precipitate along with the remainder of the fluid by shaking it up before dosing. This will give you a gallon of stock solution to add to your tank to raise magnesium levels to where needed.
